UK Trip - Day 12
Today we woke up late, had breakfast, snoozed for a bit and then headed off to Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. It was raining today so we thought to postpone our trip to Stirling for tomorrow.
Okay, so any of you who loves museum would be happy to know that all museums in Scotland are free entry. And the only word I love more than the word "Sale" is "FREE"!
Boy!!! That museum is absolutely amazing. We went there at 12 and stayed there until they practically booted us out at 5. I could have easily roamed in there for another five hours.
Since they allow you to take pictures (how nice of them), I started to take pictures of my favourite pieces. Then I realised that I am taking pictures of everything so I had to stop.
Will you believe both the saree and the day dress came from India? Saree is Benarasi Silk from Benaras and the day dress is Jaipuri Blockprint drape over mint green Indian cotton. The necklace is also from India.
There were some Monet's paintings which I drooled over for a while. I really really really want a Monet watercolour (I will take any one of them. I am not picky). But I am not willing to sell my and my future children's body organs to afford one (To which my husband responded, "You vastly overestimated your and our future kids' body organs. Not even if you include your arms and legs you can afford one). So I will settle for a really good print one day.
After the museum, we came back to the hotel to drop off our car and decided to explore Glasgow on foot. We walked around the town and came up to a Kabab Shop called 'Babs. Cute, isn't it?
So we decided to check it out. It was reasonably priced but extremely tasty dinner. If you are in this area, I'd definitely recommend it.
After dinner, we walked over to city centre. Glasgow is absolutely stunning at night. After taking a few pictures, we went back to our place.
Tomorrow we will explore Stirling Castle and Stirling Bridge in the morning and Glasgow at night.

Queen Victoria with her usual lemon-sucking expression
Sir William Wallace
The Coming of Spring painted in1899 by EA Hornell... Aren't the little girls adorable?
Anna Pavlova painted in 1910 by John Lavery...
Ice Age Giant Irish Deer - Now extinct. Thanks to extensive hunting in middle ages...
Puppy made with Boots... I loved the whimsy of it...
Ready for Battle...
A Medieval Armour
This painting is called Five Senses... Zoom in to see where the senses portrayed and how...
Stained Glass Door...
Charity
This is called Modesty. Funny how a man is never shown as "Modest"...
Who'd have thought that there will be a display of West Bengal, India in Glasgow Art Gallery?

ReplyDeleteOne thing we need to appreciate these brits they store things like treasures even though they stole it from here and there and from India lol ( kidding)
No kidding. All true. If the countries start to claim there stuff from British Empire which they stole over the years, Museums in Great Britain will be sitting empty.

DeleteGuess what first look of krpkab 2 is out. They are trying the ki and ka formula. Sonakshi working and dev becomes a house husband, feeding, bathing shubh. Anything to highlight dev.
DeleteReally? Great. I'd love to see domesticated Bhaiya with corporate wifey. :D
