Evolution!!!

Ever since the beginning of time, the world, its living beings and even its non-living entities have evolved to adapt to new changes.

The ones that didn't evolve have become extinct.

As Darwin proved in his Theory of Evolution, only fittest will survive.

And the fittest are the ones which knows how to adapt and evolve with the changing world.

Human being started as monkeys. They used to sleep on trees and used to hunt using stone as weapons. 

If the evolved society insisted to stick to the old ways, we would still be stuck in stone age.

The same way, when industry came to existence, some people opted to follow that path leaving traditional agriculture.

Again, if people insisted to stick to agriculture because that was the traditional job, we won't be talking to each other from different continents.

Today, both men and women work. Traditionally men used to work and women used to tend houses.

But the need of the family and need for independence brought women into the workplace. In '60s and '70s, women only used to work as secretaries. Because it was general thought that they don't have the intelligence for anything else.

But today, women are CEOs (granted, not as many as there should be), managers, scientists, doctors, engineers.

They have obviously proved that they are no less in terms of intelligence and learning capabilities than men.

Then when men want to learn how to cook, manage a household, manage his own children, why such a huge cry of protest?

Who has ever succeeded in the first attempt? 

I will give you an example.

I had known my husband for 7 years and been married for 5. As long as I have known him, he had been bragging about his amazing Lasagna. But never made it until last night.

I was saying that we should go to our favourite Italian restaurants (For those living in Toronto, definitely check out Paisanos. It's amazing). He again went bragging about his Lasagna. So I challenged him to prove it.

So he bought all the necessary ingredients and made his Lasagna last night. 

He miscalculated how much sauce there should be. So the Lasagna lost its shape and was slightly messy.

It tasted fine though. So I told him that it's okay. He can learn from this attempt and next time add less sauce so that the Lasagna holds its shape.

I didn't make fun of his attempt, nor I banished him from kitchen nor I said that he should never ever attempt Lasagna again because it didn't come out right the first time.

So he said that next time, he will fix what he learned from this attempt and will apply it next time. 

Had I made him feel like useless cook and said to him that it's not his cup of tea, he'd have never made Lasagna again. And why shouldn't he since he likes it so much?

Bhaiya also needs this support. He won't get it from his mother or Sonakshi's mother.

But he must have it from Sonakshi and Sonakshi must stand against anyone who ever try to make him feel inadequate due to his minor goof ups.


EPISODE: The episode starts with Bhaiya tying Soha's braid.

He says: There you go. It's done.

Golu says: BigCha, one braid is long and another is short.

Bhaiya checks and he is right.

He says: Oh okay, I have to do it again.

Golu laughs.

Soha says: Papa, I will do it later.

Bhaiya agrees.

Golu says: BigCha, fix my hair too.

Bhaiya: What happened to you? It was fine just now.

Golu: It got shocked seeing your hair styling skills. So it got spoiled.

Bhaiya: You...


Mamaji comes there: Dev beta, if you get stuck with their excuses, they will get late for school.

Bhaiya: You don't worry, Mamaji. I will drop them off to school on time. Okay, would you please take care of Shubh?

Mamaji: You don't have to tell me this.

Bhaiya then hustles the kids out the door. Only 10 minutes left for school.

Me: So they are going to be late one day. Big deal. Bhaiya will learn. 



They reach school and the door is closed.

Suhaana and Golu: Guard uncle, please open the door.

The guard says: How can I open the door? You got late.

Bhaiya says: Arre, there were so much traffic, that's why we got late. Please let them in. They will miss their class and studies.

The guard: Sir, I will lose my job if I let them in.

Bhaiya gets a call from Sona then.

Bijoy sees them standing outside: It's time for school already. What are they doing outside?

Bhaiya pleads to the guard: Please let them in or I will get into trouble.

The guard says: Sorry sir, it's not up to me.

Bhaiya thinks: What will I tell Sonakshi?

Suhaana: Papa, why aren't you picking up the phone? Is that Mamma's call?

Bhaiya finally picks up the phone.

Sonakshi: Dev, why weren't you picking up the phone? Where were you?

Bhaiya: Yes, everything is fine.

Sonakshi: Everything is fine? Dev, did you drop the kids to school?

Bhaiya lies: Yes, I dropped them on time. They must be in their class by now.

Bijoy is shocked.

Sonakshi: Thank God. I am proud of you. Shubh didn't cry, did he?

Bhaiya: No, no. He is with Mamaji.

Sonakshi: That's good. But why are you in such a hurry?

Bhaiya: I am driving car naa.

Sonakshi: Okay. Bye.

She hangs up the phone. 

Me: Bhaiya, it was okay to tell the truth. It was not such a big blunder that it can't be fixed the next day. You will know their excuses the next day and won't give them any lee ways. Your lies won't help when Sonakshi finds out the truth from someone else. 

It's not you against Sonakshi's parenting skills. It's both of you against the world together. If you won't tell your partner what went wrong, how will she help you figure out how to fix this next time? It's a team play, not a competition between the two of you.



Suhaana asks: Papa, why did you lie to Mamma? It's wrong to tell lies, naa?

Bhaiya stammers: Yes, beta. It's very wrong. One should not lie. But if I had said the truth to your mummy, she'd have got tensed. And the lie which is said for someone's good, that lie is good.

Bijoy gets worried: Why is he teaching wrong things to the kids? Lies are lies. Doesn't he get it?

Golu: BigCha, let's go. If we can't go in, then let's go home so that I can sleep.

Bhaiya: You are still feeling like sleeping? You already slept until late.

Suhaana: Papa, we will miss all classes today.

Bhaiya: I have an idea.

Golu: What idea, BigCha?

Bhaiya asks the guard: We can't attend the school. But we can meet the principal naa?

The guard says: Yes, you can meet the principal.

He opens the door.

Bhaiya takes the kids in.



On the other hand, Vicky and Elena are on their trip where Elena is taking selfie with her giant DSLR. 

Vicky: Hey listen, there is a pair of shades in the dash. Take it out. We will take selfie wearing it.

Elena opens the dash: Vicky, there are no shades there.

Vicky: Check carefully Elena, you will find it.

Elena sees a red rose there. She takes it out: Baby, I didn't see any shades. But the shades I wanted to see for a long time, I am seeing it finally.

Vicky: What did you find?

He sees the red rose: Oh that? It's not for you... It's for...

Elena shows mock anger: Don't you dare...

Vicky laughs: Just kidding, just kidding. This trip just got started. Just wait and watch what else I do for you.

Elena: Oh please. 

Vicky: Really, I shifted the meeting to Chandigarh deliberately. It was only two hours of work. It could have been done in Delhi too.

Elena is pleasantly surprised: You mean you have deliberately... And Dev bhai...

Vicky: I have to do this much for my darling wife naa?

Elena smiles.

She hugs Vicky. 


Me: This is precisely why I didn't completely blame Vicky for ignoring Elena's comparison with Sonakshi.

Elena is a freeloader. Just like Vicky.

She never feels any remorse or guilt or blame Vicky when he takes advantage of Bhaiya's generosity. In fact she adores him when he does.

Do you recall their wedding night when Vicky lied to get them Bhaiya and Sonakshi's room and how Elena reacted then? 

Was it any different than today?

She keeps wishing for Vicky to be like Bhaiya. But she is not like Sonakshi.

Her career is a joke, her mothering skills are slightly better than the local alley cat. 

So for her to wish to pursue a career and hoping for a liberal husband to manage the house is a joke. 

Vicky is equally freeloader. He never had any wish to be any kind of parent to Golu. In fact, he is a decent uncle figure in Golu's life.

If Golu had any guardian in his life, it was Bhaiya.

Yet, he turned out to be fine. Under the care of the same man whom no one wants to trust his own kids with.

Funny isn't it? How neither Ishwari, nor Radha nor Asha worry about Golu when his parents are never around anywhere. But behave as if only Soha and Shubh will get into drugs, alcohol and ruin their lives because their father is taking care of them. 

How is it that they have one rule for one child, and another rule for the others?

At the school, Bhaiya cooks up an elaborate lie to the principal about an accident being the reason the kids were late.

Golu and Suhaana are both supporting Bhaiya in his elaborate lies.

Bhaiya totally butters up the principal saying that thanks to the education they got in school, they wanted to help the accident victim.

Golu whispers to Suhaana: BigCha lies so well, naa? He is acting so well...

Suhaana mumbles something which I didn't get.

Golu shushes her.

Principal says: But rules are rules. They can't be broken for anyone naa?

Bhaiya butters up some more: Whatever decision you take, will be the right decision.

He takes the kids and are about to leave when the principal calls him back.

He allows the kids to go to class as an exception.

Bhaiya promises that it won't happen again.

The kids go back to class.

Me: Ah, Bhaiya... You are back to your old tricks. You might got the kids in and thus think that you wiped out the fact that you got them to school late. But your kids didn't learn the consequences of them being late. The only thing they learned that lies clean up goof ups and it's fine to lie if one needs to.

It's not your gender's problem. It's your own shaky morality's problem. You always took the easy lie over hard truth.

Yet you didn't learn anything from it.

How will you scold Suhaana if she lies again? What will you say?

A parent has to lead by example. They can't lie if they don't want the kids to lie.

You did the same when Golu was under your care. You are doing the same with Suhaana.

Sonakshi needs to set you straight on this. 

Bijoy came back to his home worried.

Asha comes to the table: Taste the fish and tell me if it's good. You went to congratulate Dev today, naa? Tell me what he said. He must have got surprised seeing you.

Bijoy says: Salt is fine. But if you add a little bit more spices, then it would be perfect.

Asha: At least you praised my cooking even if it's to ignore my questions.

Bijoy: Ignoring your question means?

Asha: You are looking tensed. Tell me what you talked to Dev about.

Bijoy: You are writer. That's why you are thinking too much. I am just tired. That's all. 

Asha: Really? It's only 11 o'clock and you are already tired? That's what I should believe?

Bijoy: You are daughter of Byomkesh Bakshi (famous fictional detective of Bengal). You are always busy in investigating.

Asha: Really? Now tell me what you had talked to Dev about.

Bijoy can't hold back any longer. So he tells Asha everything.

Me: One thing I'd like to point out here. Among all the married men and women in this show, the only person who at all times treat his spouse as true life partner, is Bijoy.

Asha hides a lot of things from Bijoy. But he never hides anything nor lies to his life partner. Because in his mind, they are a team and a team member don't lie to each other.

Bhaiya is also doing a lot for his wife. But he still imagines himself in a competition to prove himself to his wife, whereas he should be thinking of the both of them as to be a team and against the world.

They should learn from Bijoy how to be an ideal parent. Unfortunately they idolize their mothers and ignore the best example of parenthood.

Bijoy says to Asha: Dev is lying to the kids. This is not the right way. What will the kids learn? They will learn to lie naa?

Asha: I can't believe Dev is doing this. He does everything right. At least he is completely right about the kids.

Me: Hain? Excuse me, Asha? Are you suffering from partial amnesia? Until yesterday when Bhaiya decided to manage house while Sonakshi works, you were chanting that Bhaiya is doing wrong. Suddenly he does everything right?

And Asha, you very well know that Bhaiya lies. You all have faced the consequences of his lying before. Then why are you suddenly so shocked to hear that Bhaiya lies?

Bijoy: Asha, I think we should call Sona and tell her.

Asha: No no, Bijoy. Whatever we must do, we must think about it first. She is already so stressed. If she hears this, she will get even more stressed. They might have problems between them.

Bijoy: So what shall we do? Shall we sit idly? Dev is lying to the kids and the kids are learning wrong things. The mistakes must be fixed naa?

Asha: Yes. Then why don't you do something? You should talk to Dev directly. Make him understand that it's not right. Kids pick up things very quickly. 

Bijoy: Yes, Asha. You are right. I should talk to Dev directly. He will go to pick up kids from school. I will go there early. I will sit down and talk to him directly.

Asha: But carefully, huh? You have to make him understand.

Bijoy: Asha, I understand. His intention is not wrong and I am in complete support of him. I just have to correct his mistakes. If I talk to him man to man, he will understand. After all, I am father of Dr. Sonakshi Bose. The woman who made him a man. Otherwise, he had problems before her naa?

Me: Asha is right this time. Bijoy should talk to Bhaiya himself. But he is wrong to think that Sonakshi is some sort of perfect woman. She also makes mistakes and most of the time it's under Asha or Ishwari's influence. 

They both need to understand how parenthood works and Bijoy might be a better person to explain it.

At the school, Golu is looking for Soha at lunch.

Golu: She always disappears in lunch time. Next time, I will eat without looking for her.

Soha again has tummy ache.

Golu finds her: Soha, why are you here? I had been looking for you so long. You were hiding from me naa? Are you playing prank on me again?

Soha: Golu, I am having stomach ache.

Golu: Again? Come on, let's go to doctor.

Soha: But the doctor said that it's a minor thing and he also gave me medicines. 

Soha thinks.

Golu: Then why are you having tummy ache again? Oh... May be you are having tummy ache because of the breakfast BigCha made.

Soha: Don't say just anything, Golu. My Papa is world's best Papa. Nothing can happen because of him. 

Golu: You know Badi Dadi had said that you get tummy ache if you lie.

Suhaana: But I don't lie.

Golu: Today we became part of BigCha's lie naa. That's why your stomach is aching. 

Suhaana: Then your tummy must be aching too.

Golu: Yes. But why my tummy isn't aching?

They think.

Me: It's because Golu is used to Bhaiya's lies. That's what he had seen since he was a child. Soha is not used to seeing her parent blatantly lying. For her, it's a shock and unacceptable behaviour. So her conscience is biting into her tummy. But Golu is not feeling any pain.


Sonakshi is at work. 

Her employees show the kids' condition.

Sonakshi gets worried: There are so many Govt. programs. But nothing has been implemented until now. We have to do this fast. Until then give me the head count.

The employees leave. Bhaiya comes there.

Bhaiya: What happened? You are looking tensed.

Sonakshi: What are you doing here? I thought you were going home.

Bhaiya: Yes, I was going home. But then I thought of my wife and came here. But you are not looking happy seeing me.

Sonakshi: No. It's nothing like that. I am happy to see you.

Bhaiya: Really? 

Sonakshi says: There is a problem. I am thinking about Shubh. He must be missing his Papa naa?

Bhaiya: I came to meet you and you are only thinking about Shubh. You have no tension about me?  I have told Mamaji to take care of Shubh.

Sonakshi: Okay. Then I have no problem.

Bhaiya: I have came to meet you. Have some romantic talks with me. For that matter, tell me what happened. Is there something wrong?

Sonakshi: Dev, I feel bad. Our children are very lucky. They have everything. But see these kids. They have nothing. They don't even have enough food to eat. 

Bhaiya: That's why Sonakshi put all your efforts in this project. Whatever you can do, do it. And I know, you will do it.

Sonakshi agrees.

Bhaiya: Come on. Now fix your mood and kiss your stay home super husband.

Sonakshi: We are in office.

Bhaiya: So?

Sonakshi: So, you go home and give lots of kisses to Shubh from me.

Bhaiya: This is fine. That means I got cheated. No one even asks about me since Shubh came in. I am roaming around for a kiss. 

Sonakshi laughs: Don't do drama and go home.

Bhaiya pouts: Okay. I am going home.

Sonakshi: Okay, go.

Bhaiya: I am going.

Sonakshi shrugs: Okay.

Bhaiya sulks: : Fine.

Sonakshi calls him back and kisses him on the forehead. 

Bhaiya points at his cheek: Now here.

Sonakshi: Greed is a bad thing.

Bhaiya: Okay.

Sonakshi: Oh yes, pick up the kids on time.

Bhaiya: Okay.

He leaves.

Me: That was a cute scene. I am glad Sonakshi is being a caring wife. Just like a woman managing her home needs her husband to show her appreciation, a man taking care of his home also needs his wife's appreciation.

These little things go a long way.

Bijoy is at the school and is wondering: Dev is still not here. The school is also over. The kids didn't come out either.

Inside the school, Golu is fighting with a boy and Suhaana is trying to pull the boy off: Let go of my brother. Let go.

Golu kicks the boy off and continues to fight. 

Suhaana asks him to stop but he doesn't stop.

Just then Bijoy and the teacher come there.

The teacher asks them to stop and asks them what is going on.

Golu says: He is not giving my copy.

The boy says: He is lying. He stole my copy for his sister. 

All the other kids also agree with the boy.

The boy continues: When I asked my copy back, he started fighting with me.

The teacher asks Golu: Golu, is he telling the truth?

He stays silent.

Then the teacher asks Soha: Suhaana, you tell me the truth.

Suhaana also remain silent.

The teacher says: If any of my student breaks the discipline of my school, I won't tolerate it. Suhaana, call your father. He should also know what his children are up to.

Me: I will cut in here for a second. Ishwari and Radha are so concerned that because Sonakshi is working, the kids will be in trouble. The teacher doesn't even know who is Vicky. He thinks Suhaana and Golu are Bhaiya's children. 

She never asked Golu to call his father even though he fought with the boy. She asked Suhaana to call her father even though she didn't do anything. 

Yet, according to the Maata Trio, Sonakshi is solely responsible to raise all three kids. Elena and Vicky have no responsibility and are only their to live their life at Bhaiya's expense.



Bijoy steps in: Ma'am, I...

The teacher asks: Who are you? Are you related to Mr. Dixit?

Bijoy says: I am their grandparent.

The teacher: Look sir, you make sure they understand that I won't tolerate this in my school. First they come late and then this fighting? 

Bijoy says: I am really sorry. It won't happen again.

He asks Golu to say sorry to teacher and to say that it won't happen again.

Golu says sorry.

The teacher says: Golu, I don't want to hear any more complaint about you. Otherwise, I will suspend you.

Golu nods.

Me: At least they learned their lesson. But this lessons of lies gotta end.


Ishwari is taking care of Shubh.

Bhaiya comes home: Maa, it's good you came home early. I was worried that he might be crying.

Ishwari: I didn't want to stay away either. There isn't any other woman in the house. I thought at least I can be here and be useful to you. So I came home early. Now take him and handle him. That's your job naa to handle the child? So manage your child well.

Bhaiya takes Shubh on his lap and Shubh starts crying.

Bhaiya: What happened to Shubh? Sorry, Papa is a little late. 

Ishwari says: If you need me, call me.

She leaves.

Shubh continues to cry.

Bhaiya: Why are you crying? Did Dadi change your diaper today? One second, one second. 

He puts him into his crib: Are you sleepy? Then go to sleep. 

Shubh stops crying for a second. 

He slowly starts to leave when Shubh starts to scream again.

Bhaiya: He must be sick. I will take him to the doctor.

Ishwari comes back: Arre, Dev. Why is he crying? What happened?

Bhaiya: Look Maa, he is crying so hard. May be he is sick. We should take him to the doctor.

Ishwari: Why to the doctor? He was fine a minute ago. 

She picks up Shubh: Let's see what's the problem. One second baby, one second.

She checks Shubh's diaper and he has pooped. 

Ishwari: He just soiled his diaper that's why he is crying. 

Bhaiya: But you just changed his diaper.

Ishwari: So what? He must have got tummy upset.

Bhaiya: But we didn't feed anything bad to him.

Ishwari: Dev, kids have very sensitive tummy. They don't just get sick if they eat something bad. If they don't have food on time, then also they get tummy upset from gas. Bring the diaper.

Bhaiya gets the diaper.

Ishwari to Shubh: Look here, Baby. Papa can't do anything. 

Then she says to Bhaiya: You can't raise a child by just reading books. What a little baby needs no one can tell. But that doesn't mean that you should run to the doctor for minor things.

Bhaiya: But Maa, how will we know what a child needs and what is serious?

Ishwari: A mother instantly knows what a child needs and what he wants or what is his problem.

Bhaiya: Only a mother understands it. A father doesn't understand it?

Me: BINGO!!! Bhaiya, you have hit the nail on the head. Ishwari deliberately left Bhaiya with a crying baby and she also came back to drive a point home for him.

When Bhaiya looked to her for advice, she instantly turned it into a gender difference to make her point.

But she is not only wrong, but she is being petty.

No woman is born with a baby manual downloaded in their head. Every mother learns with time when they have their first baby. Eventually with other children, things get easier. But plenty of women also struggle to understand what their baby needs.

The difference is that when a mother trying to meet the needs of a new baby, family member steps in to help. 

But when a father is trying to learn, the same family members are picking his faults.

The way he dealt with Suhaana and Golu's situation today wasn't right. Lying should never be presented as solution in front of children.

But if he needs help and advice from his own family, Ishwari has no right to turn it into her own agenda.

If she doesn't want to help, fine. Bhaiya can hire a woman with experience to handle the baby and just supervise the nanny until Shubh is old enough to respond to his questions.

But will that nanny who is a woman understand Shubh better than his father? No.

Funny how once upon a time Ishwari made Sonakshi feel useless in Bhaiya's life and today she is making Bhaiya feel useless in his own son's life.


Ishwari says: I told you naa, Dev. Man and woman have different place in life and it's not me, but the nature created reality.

Bhaiya doesn't respond.

Me: Not true. If that was the case, then every motherless child will die without their mother. 

But lots of single father are raising children very successfully. How are they doing it? 

Instead of boasting her son's morale and encouraging him, she is actively pulling him down.

Thank God, Bhaiya has better sense than to believe Ishwari's bullshit.



Bhaiya is changing Shubh's diaper: You are this little and eat so less. Then how do you need so many diaper change? How do you do it? 

Bhaiya gets a whiff of Shubh's poo aroma: Ewww... Okay, okay. Poop as much as you want. I have also become expert in diaper change. Now that nappy has changed, you are happy naa? Tell me.

He is playing with Shubh while Bijoy is calling. So he doesn't pick up the phone.


Bijoy wonders: Why isn't Dev here yet? And he is not picking up the phone either.

Suhaana asks: Dadu, Papa is not coming to pick us up?

Bijoy: Beta, I am trying to call him but the call is not going through.

Suhaana asks: Then what should we do? 

Bijoy then calls Sonakshi.

She picks up the phone when her assistant points it out: I think your phone is vibrating.

Sonakshi sees it's her father: Baba, I am at a meeting right now. I will call you back later.

Bijoy says: Okay beta. You do your work. 

He is about to hang up the phone when Sonakshi asks: Baba, you are sounding stressed. What happened? Is everything okay?

Bijoy says: No no. Everything is fine. You do your meeting.

He hangs up the phone.

Sonakshi gets suspicious: He is not sounding fine. I could also hear kids' voices. Is Papa at kids' school? Dev...

She calls Bhaiya. But the number is not reachable.

Sonakshi gets worried. 

Me: Bhaiya really needs help. Everyone is picking his faults but no one is helping him. No one is perfect on the first day on the job.

Even Sonakshi would have needed help managing three kids. 

Sonakshi should suggest hiring a nanny who won't sabotage Bhaiya's morale with snarky comments and will be there to help him out when he needs it as in managing Shubh when he attends Golu and Soha and managing Golu and Soha when he takes care of Shubh.

PRECAP: Bhaiya comes to school and sees Bijoy: Baba.

Bijoy is mad: What is this?

Bhaiya: I am really sorry.

Bijoy: Look Dev, I respect your decision. If this is how your decision impacts the kids, then I don't think your decision is right.

Just then Sonakshi comes to school: Baba...

Sonakshi notices Golu got hurt: What is all this?

She looks at Bhaiya. He looks guilty.

Me: Just hold on a second. Eveyone is out to crucify Bhaiya for something even mother Goddess, Ishwari could not have prevented. How would he know that Golu will get into fight in school? 

The most any parent can do is make sure their children learn their lessons and not repeat their mistakes.

The only thing they can blame Bhaiya for is that he was not there on time to pick up the kids. 

So he should arrange a pick up and drop for Golu and Soha. Big deal. He has cars galore and drivers on payroll.

However, it could have been Sonakshi who got late. Sometimes, it's unavoidable for working parents.

And how would Sonakshi have done differently here Bijoy? You can blame Bhaiya for lying to the kids and teaching them to lie. But whether Sonakshi takes care of the kids or Bhaiya do, he can teach them to lie any time. 

You can tell him to set an example, but you can't limit his exposure or influence to the kids. 

If you really want to be fair, Bijoy, then give Bhaiya the support you gave to Sonakshi when she had Soha. No one else is giving that support he needs.

Asha or Ishwari won't help him. He needs you.

But don't start with blame if you are not willing to help.

Either show up or shut up.
