Stereotypes!!!
Nothing makes my temper blow as when I see stereotypes are justified on screen.
And funnily enough, the producers believe if you don't show stereotypes, audience won't be able to identify with the characters.
Here's a few examples.
1. Fat people always have a funny personality. Because what is funnier than someone gaining weight?
Not to mention, fat people don't mind if people make fun of them. It comes with the territory to be the butt of everyone's fat jokes.
But hey, Indians are very sensitive lot.
2. All foreigners are insulting and snarky until some great Indian person enlighten them by singing praise of India or defeating them in a challenge or giving lecture on India's greatness and in the end, they are agree that India is a great country.
Never mind the fact, that if they are in India, that means they like this country sufficiently to come here.
I mean, every foreigner I have personally encountered were extremely respectful and very much appreciates the art, culture and people of India. But what do I know? I just live in Canada surrounded by foreigners.
3. In terms of gender, the man who is a jerk is an alpha male and not a bully, the woman who answers back when insulted is a rude bi*ch and not a woman with self-respect.
A good daughter-in-law is a doormat and a good son is a bad husband.
4. And most importantly, if a man is taking care of a child, he will continue to behave stupidly and goof up even if it's his baby.
While if a woman is taking care of a child, she will instinctively know how to handle the baby even if it's not her baby.
Mummys are the problem solver, Daddys are there to call Mummy.
Wasn't there a memes on that?
The question is why?
Well, stereotypes are stereotypes because there are SOME instances they might be true, but they are not true ALL the time.
SOME fat people are funny, but not ALL fat people are funny.
SOME ignorant foreigners are insulting, but not ALL foreigners are insulting.
SOME men don't know what to do with the baby, but not ALL men are useless.
In fact, here in Canada, men take as much responsibility to raise children and do every household chores as women.
They are perfectly capable and do as good a job as the women.
Women in Canada happily leave their children with their dad while they go out to meet their friends just like men leave their children with their mother.
Then?
Didn't nature create these men the same way as Indian men?
Do Indian men lack the common sense and intelligence one needs to manage their own kids?
Are Indian men the inferior quality of men to these foreigners despite sharing the same gender?
The answer is no.
They are not inferior nor incapable of raising kids or managing house or doing whatever one needs to do for family.
But they never get the opportunity to learn.
A mother in India teaches her daughter all life skills - cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, managing house.
But the same mother doesn't teach her son the same life skills assuming that after she is no longer alive, her son can depend on his wife and then to his daughter or daughter-in-law utterly incapable of doing anything themselves.
Even if the man wants to care for his own child, the mother jumps in to assert her motherly wisdom making him feel like an idiot until he just gives up and steps back.
The problem with stereotypes is that it fosters the belief that it applies to everyone.
As a result, every woman thinks everyone of the men are incapable of managing house or raising children. So they think that just because they are women, they can also do a better job to raise the children than men.
Men have to prove themselves to get the "priviledge" of raising their own kids while the women only has to be women to get the same "priviledge" as their "motherly right".
The makers of this show took another crucial issue of the society - gender perceptions. But I will be really disappointed if they take it the same stereotypical way they dealt with other sensitive issues like infertility and single parenthood.
EPISODE: The episode starts with Bhaiya struggling to put a onesie on the baby while the baby is facing backwards. Ishwari sees his idiocy and is worried.
Me: Yep. No kidding. I am seeing his idiocy and I am worried. He is sitting by the baby's head and trying to put the onesie while bending the baby's leg backwards. This is the same guy who put the diaper on just fine before.
CVs, do you really think the audience are moron?
So Nikisha, the super nanny, arrives. And she says with a smile: Sir, if you want, can I help you?
Bhaiya is relieved to have a woman showing him how to use his common sense. He says: Yes. Sure.
Nikisha sits on the bed by the feet of the baby who is conveniently facing the right direction for her and puts the baby's onesie on easily.
Then she hands over the baby to Bhaiya.
Bhaiya is holding Shubh on his lap when Nikisha says: Dev sir, please put your hand behind the babies head. Actually, then the baby's balance will remain stable and he won't have any problem.
Bhaiya realises that all this time, he didn't even know how to hold his baby.
He puts his hand behind Shubh's head and confirms: Like this?
Nikisha beams her approval: Yes, like this.
Ishwari leaves from there upset.
Me: I was wondering if I can also ditch this show. Because I just realised that I can drive a truck through the holes in the script. How the eff Bhaiya was handling the baby at night, letting Sonakshi sleep if he suddenly turned utter moron the moment Nikisha, the super nanny arrived?
He was changing diapers, feeding Shubh, holding him, managing him since day one of the new season.
Suddenly he wasn't doing anything right? He is an utter moron? Are you effing kidding me?
Sonakshi is worried at work. She thinks: I think I should call Dev.
She tries his phone. But he cuts it: May be he is busy. That's why he is cutting my call. I will call Maa.
She calls Ishwari. She picks up the phone: Maa, is everything alright? Where's Dev? Actually, I thought Dev was busy that's why I called you.
Ishwari: Sonakshi, you don't have to worry about Dev. You should be worried about those who are still very young. Shubh needs your motherhood and Suhaana too. If you take care of Shubh, then Dev can take care of Suhaana. When second child comes, the first child thinks that no one is taking care of her.
Sonakshi: Maa, I also want to be with my children all day, play with them, talk to them all day. But Dev doesn't want this. He wants a chance too. And he just asked for a month. So I want to give him this chance.
Me: Hold on a second. So Sonakshi, you are trying to tell me that you wanted to give up your career and absolutely didn't want to work leaving your children at home, but just because Bhaiya is forcing you, you are now working leaving the kids to Bhaiya. Is that it?
Well, then why the hell are you at workplace? You can give the same chance to Bhaiya if you are at home and absolutely don't interfere on how he is managing the kids.
He will get the same opportunity to manage the kids and you can see your kids all day.
But suddenly you are behaving as if Bhaiya is the one who is forcing you to have a career and you are totally on board with Ishwari and Asha.
Wow, Sonakshi. What an incredible way to put all blame on your husband.
It seems, like Asha, you also want to be the goody-two-shoes while passing on all blame on your poor husband.
Ishwari: You are still stuck on the same talk?
Sonakshi: Maa, please. I promise you if Dev can't do it in one month, then I will leave work and be with the children.
Ishwari: I am not understanding how can I make you understand that this is not about you or Dev. It's about the kids.
Me: If it's about only the kids, Ishwari, then what's the problem? It seems super nanny is doing a bang up job even in tight dress. I didn't see Suhaana suffering from sibling rivalry or feeling neglected nor I saw Shubh is crying himself sick over his mother.
You might be worried about how Bhaiya turned into a moron overnight. But Nikisha is there to take charge. Where's the fire?
Just then Sonakshi's assistant comes there and tells her that the clients are waiting for her to call them.
Sonakshi excuses herself and tells Ishwari: Maa, I have to go now. We will talk later. Okay?
She hangs up the phone.
Then she thinks: I understand your concern, Maa. But I also have to make Dev understand. If he says something, he does it.
Me: Well, then what's the worry? He says he can manage the kids, then he will manage the kids.
Is your worry over the fact that he won't do a good job or the worry is that he WILL do a good job, may be even better than you?
Bhaiya is preparing Golu while Nikisha is on the phone behind him holding Shubh.
He says: You are getting so old. At least learn how to wear a tie.
Golu: There's still time for me to join the company, BigCha.
Suhaana is packing his school bag.
Golu yanks her pigtail.
Suhaana gets irritated: Stop it, Golu.
Golu: It's fun.
Bhaiya yanks Golu: What are you doing Golu? Come here and put your shoes on.
Ishwari comes there and sees Nikisha on the phone holding Shubh.
Ishwari tells Nikisha: Do one work at a time.
Nikisha says: It's okay, Mummyji. Why are you so tensed? I will manage everything. There will be no problem.
She goes back to her phone.
Ishwari looks at Bhaiya. But he ignores the insolent attitude of Nikisha and also being on call while at work.
Me: I think Nikisha is Black Hole. See how she sucked up Bhaiya's IQ? I mean considering now he is an idiot who never had an employee.
I wonder what he would have done, if he had an employee chatting on the phone while he is at work? Not to mention, had given him snarky attitude.
But I digress. Let's continue.
Ishwari says: Dev, if you need any help, then tell me.
Bhaiya: No, Maa. I will do it. Everything is done. Now we will just go.
Me: Ishwari, had you not taunted the last time, he won't be so averse to ask for help from you. I wonder if next time you can just hand over the help without the judgement. But knowing you all, you never learn your lesson.
No one likes help with strings attached. Then the help looses its value. So now he neither needs or wants your advice nor your help.
Bhaiya looks at Suhaana and sees Suhaana has a pained expression. He asks: Suhaana, what happened? Why are you holding your sides like this?
Suhaana says: Papa, I am having pain in my tummy again.
Me: Looks like appendicitis. Didn't anyone take Suhaana to a family doctor after an unknown doctor handed over medicine? And here I thought Sonakshi is a doctor.
Ishwari and Bhaiya get alarmed.
Bhaiya says: Didn't you take medicine?
Suhaana: No, I took the medicine. But my tummy is still aching.
Ishwari: That means she is not fully cured yet.
Bhaiya: Why didn't you say so before? We have to take you to hospital. We have to get you checked.
Ishwari: Her infection is not over yet, Dev.
Bhaiya tells Nikisha: You do one thing. Bring his diaper bag and come with us.
Bhaiya worries: How to do this?
Nikisha leaves with Shubh to get the bag.
Ishwari asks: Dev, why are you taking Shubh with you?
Bhaiya: That's why I hired a nanny. So that even when I am busy, I can check on him then. If she goes with us, then it will be better.
Ishwari: But it's not good for the baby to be exposed to the outside air.
Bhaiya: But you tell me that sometimes outside air is good for the baby.
Me: Don't ask me what that means. I don't know. I think fresh air is good for a baby. But then may be Delhi is too polluted. Not sure.
But one thing I know. One should not take a little baby to the hospital if he is healthy. You never know what germs are floating there.
I don't know why Bhaiya never clarifies his actions with anyone or ask someone who do know about this things. He can even call Sonakshi and ask.
Ishwari: Okay, I will also come with you.
Bhaiya: No, Maa. You go and drop Golu to school. If he gets late, then the principal will close the gate.
Ishwari: You do one thing. You leave Shubh with me. You know how many germs is floating in the hospital. If you take him in, then who knows what might happen.
Bhaiya: I won't take Shubh inside the hospital. Besides, Vicky or Elena is not at home. You will go and drop Golu to school. How can I leave Shubh here? I will go to hospital and get her checked quickly and come back.
Golu tells Suhaana: You don't worry about school. I will take all the notes for you today.
Bhaiya leaves with Suhaana.
Ishwari tries to stop him but he doesn't stop. She shouts to them: Take care.
Me: If you won't take Shubh inside the hospital, that means the nanny and the baby will stay in the car. Then how is your previous statement valid? How will you care for Shubh even when you are busy?
Then you might as well leave him home.
Alternatively, there's Bijoy and Asha too. You could leave them in charge of Shubh. They handled Suhaana in Sonakshi's absence. They can manage Shubh too.
Saurabh takes care of his baby himself.
But the problem with you Bhaiya is that you make stupid decisions when you panic.
At work, Sonakshi is in a meeting with everyone including Saurabh. She tells them a plan and says that if they implement it, then they will guaranty their entry in the social projects.
Sourabh says: And we have a chance to issue tender for this. We can't handle such huge volume. But the good news is that we have investors.
Sonakshi says: That's great.
She gets a call from Ishwari and excuses herself.
She tells Ishwari: Sorry Maa, I was in a meeting.
Ishwari says: You were busy. That means you didn't talk to Dev, naa?
Sonakshi says: No, I didn't talk to Dev. What happened, Maa?
Ishwari: Suhaana is having pain in her tummy again. Dev had to take her to the doctor.
Sonakshi gets tensed: Soha is having stomach pain again?
Ishwari: I am very tensed for Soha and Shubh too.
Sonakshi: What happened to Shubh?
Ishwari: No nothing happened to Shubh. But see, Dev took Shubh with him and also his nanny. I told him to leave him at home and I will manage him. But he left with them.
Sonakshi: Okay, but why did he take Shubh with him?
Ishwari: I don't know why he took Shubh with him. One should not take a little baby to the hospital. I am very tensed Sonakshi. Shubh is out with a nanny, whom we don't know anything on how well she can do her work. Now whether Dev will manage Shubh or Soha?
Sonakshi: Maa, you don't worry. Everything will be fine. If needs be, I will go there myself.
She hangs up the phone.
Ishwari thinks: How will you go there yourself? You are busy at your work.
Me: My goodness. Ishwari is behaving as if a teenager has taken the kids out and he is bound to screw up.
At least Sonakshi didn't start blasting Bhaiya the moment Ishwari called.
Sourabh calls Sonakshi.
Sonakshi says: Whatever you have to say, say it fast Dada.
Sourabh asks: Did Dev babu call you?
Sonakshi says: No. He didn't call me. But I have to go. He took Shubh to the hospital.
Sourabh: Dev babu is smart. That's why he took him with him naa. And how will it work if you keep running after him?
Sonakshi: I can't work like this in so much tension.
Sourabh: But it's a very important meeting.
Sonakshi: Dada, you are here naa. You will manage.
Sourabh: I can manage. But you are the face of the company. They are coming to see you. If you are not there, the morale of whole team will go down.
Sonakshi: Dada, look. Right now I don't have time to talk. My kids are very important to me. That's why I have to go. You manage this, okay?
Sourabh: But how can I?
Sonakshi leaves: You will handle it.
Sourabh is worried.
Me: I am shocked at the level of selfishness in Sourabh. He heard that Sonakshi's children (or at least one child) is in the hospital. But instead of getting worried and asking questions about why are they in the hospital or if everyone is fine, he is worried for a meeting.
And such is his incompetency that he can't even handle a meeting and Asha expected him to manage the company while Sonakshi steps back.
Which deluded world does she live in? If Sonakshi hands over her business to Sourabh, it won't be long when Asha is on the street along with her family.
She thought just because Sourabh is a man, he can handle business just like Ishwari assumed that just because Bhaiya is a man, he can only make idiotic decision about the children.
Both sexists to the t.
Ishwari is pacing at home. Radha and Mamaji are standing there.
Mamaji asks: Ishwari, why are you increasing your blood pressure? What will you get by worrying like this?
Ishwari: You are talking strange. Don't you know how much bacteria float in the hospital? And my Shubh is so little. Won't I worry?
Mamaji says: But that girl is also with her naa.
Ishwari mutters: That's why I am worried.
Mamaji: And Dev knows that the baby should not be taken into the hospital.
Ishwari: But there's Suhaana too naa. How many kids will he manage?
Mamaji says: Okay fine. You also go to the hospital. It's better than worrying here. Then the kids will be in front of your eyes.
Ishwari: Yes, I will do that.
Mamaji: And even Dev will get some help.
Ishwari: Yes. I will go to the hospital.
Radha stops her: Jiji, if you go to the hospital like this, then what will Dev think? He will think that you think he can't take care of the kids. He will think that you don't believe in him.
Mamaji says (may be for the first time in his life): Radha is absolutely right. Dev will think exactly that.
Ishwari: No. I will go. If he is their father, then I am also something to them. When my kids need me, will I stop to think how will Dev feel? I am trying to understand him. So now he also has to understand me.
Mamaji and Radha look at each other.
Ishwari is on a roll. She continues: And you said that if the kids need us, then we are there. So I am here.
Ishwari runs.
Radha laughs.
Mamaji says: Then I am also here.
He goes after his kachori.
Radha wonders: Then where am I?
Me: You are no where in this madness. So just be happy. Let Ishwari do her venting, Mamaji do his panting, Sonakshi do her ranting and you just do your relaxing.
Mamaji and Ishwari come to the hospital.
Mamaji asks an adult patient sitting alone who is the children's doctor here.
Me: Yep, he is that brilliant.
The patient says: I don't know.
Mamaji looks lost.
Me: I know men are not that stupid. But God, in this show they are. Why not ask the receptionist, Mamaji. Don't you think he/she might be better suited to answer this questions?
Sonakshi sees them. She runs to them: Maa, Mamaji.
Ishwari runs to her: Sonakshi...
They both ask together: How is Suhaana?
Ishwari says: Okay. We also came just now.
Mamaji says: But we don't know who is the doctor.
Sonakshi points out the doctor's cabin: Mamaji, he is the doctor.
They are about to enter the room, but a nurse stops her: Excuse me. Doctor is not in his cabin. There's an emergency case. He is busy in the emergency ward.
They all get worried.
Ishwari asks: Madam, who is the patient? Is she a little girl?
The nurse says: I don't know the name of the patient.
Sonakshi asks: Where's the emergency ward?
The nurse gives the direction.
They run to the emergency ward.
Me: I had heard a story of a moron in my childhood. Someone tells him that the crow stole his nose. So he ran after the crow without checking if the crow actually took his nose or not.
These are the same type of moron. Instead of calling Bhaiya and asking about Suhaana, they are running after an emergency case which might not even be the same patient. Talk about idiocy.
They reach emergency ward.
Ishwari says: Sonakshi, this is closed.
Sonakshi says: Maa, I think there's examination going on inside. We will have to wait here.
Ishwari: But where is the girl? Where is she?
Sonakshi: I think she is inside with the doctor.
Ishwari: But she should be here naa with Shubh?
Mamaji: Sonakshi, do one thing. Call Dev to find out what's going on.
Me: It's a sad day in the world, when a common sense suggestion sounds brilliant idea.
How the hell this doesn't occur to them to do first? Honestly?
And why not ask the receptionist if there's any patient called Suhaana Dixit? She'd guide them to the right direction. Why is everyone so dumb?
Sonakshi calls Dev while Ishwari frets.
She asks: What happened? Isn't it connecting?
Sonakshi says: It's not connecting.
Mamaji says: Okay, I will check outside.
Just then the doctor comes out.
He asks: Mrs. Dixit, why are you here?
Sonakshi says: Doctor, my husband brought my daughter here. Are they inside?
The doctor says: They came here. I checked your daughter and then sent them home.
Ishwari: Sent them home?
The doctor: Yes, it's been a while since they left.
Sonakshi: How is my daughter? Is she okay? I could not talk to Dev so I thought they must be inside with you in emergency ward.
The doctor: No no. It's nothing like admitting her into an emergency ward. Her stomach infection was a little serious. So I gave her some more medicines. You have to be careful about her food and she has to be in bed rest for three days. Okay? Excuse me.
He leaves.
Mamaji says: Thank you. Let's go. There's nothing to worry.
They leave.
Me: So Bhaiya did manage the children just fine. But why didn't he inform anyone? They were worried. He knew that.
Ishwari complaints: What is this Sonakshi? Dev should have called us and let us know. We are so worried about the kids.
Mamaji: Ishwari, he might have been busy with the kids. The good news is that the kids are fine.
Ishwari says: Thank God.
Just then Mami calls Sonakshi. She tells them that it's Mami.
Ishwari asks her to pick up the phone and put it on the speaker.
Ishwari asks: Did Dev and kids reach home?
Radha says: Dev and the kids came home a while ago. But...
Sonakshi asks: Mami, why is Shubh crying?
Radha: Sonakshi, I am trying to stop him from crying. But he is not stopping.
Ishwari asks: Where is Dev and that girl? Why isn't she managing the child?
Radha: Dev is boiling the water and that girl, stupid, is on cell phone chatting. I am not understanding whether I should see to Suhaana or handle Shubh. Jiji, you come home fast. Please.
Sonakshi gets worried: Mami, we are coming soon.
Radha is relieved.
Me: Seriously? Bhaiya doesn't even have the sense to get the girl to do her job? Can't he hear Shubh is crying? CVs, are you seriously trying to prove that the man who hired and managed so many employees, can't figure out how to tell the nanny to handle the baby?
Ishwari says: See, there are so many people at home. But kids are not happy naa.
Sonakshi says: Let's go home. Please.
Ishwari is about to leave.
Sonakshi gets another call. It's Sourabh.
He says: Sona, where are you? You come to office fast. The clients want to meet you.
Sonakshi: What will they achieve by meeting me?
Sourabh: I don't know. They are saying that they will meet finally to sum it up.
Sonakshi: We gave presentation six times and the last presentation was given by you. Then what will they sum up once again? I can't come now. I will have to go home.
Sourabh: I know Sona that you need to be with your kids. But I am worried the clients may not get offended. It's such a big project and I don't want to take any chance.
Me: The clients who came there to have nutrition planned for under privileged kids will get offended when the person in charge is caring for her own kids? Sourabh is not only the most insensitive person I have ever seen on screen but also the biggest idiot.
He is behaving as if Sonakshi's children are nothing to him. There's not even a little concern in him for her children. His biggest worry is that the client might get offended.
Sonakshi: Okay do this. I am going home and see what I need to handle there. Once I have that in control, I will see what I can do. If they have to meet me, tell them that they have to wait.
Sourabh hurriedly agrees: Okay. You go home. I will manage here. But please you come today.
Sonakshi: Okay.
Me: Ever heard of video conferencing? Obviously not.
They reach home and sees Nikisha busy on phone.
Ishwari says: Why is Shubh crying?
Then she sees Nikisha: See. See this.
She comes and stands in front of Nikisha: Hello.
Nikisha tells the person on the call: I will call you later.
Ishwari asks: Where is Suhaana? And why is Shubh crying? Where is he?
Nikisha: Ma'am, Suhaana is in her room and Shubh is with Dev sir.
Then she goes back to her call.
Ishwari gets mad.
Sonakshi says: Maa, I will check on Suhaana.
She leaves.
Mamaji stops Ishwari from charging: Ishwari, you go see Dev. May be he needs something. I will see to her.
Ishwari leaves fuming.
He says in saccharine tone to Nikisha: Go ahead and chat. You have lots of time.
Nikisha excuses herself and leaves.
Mamaji curses mobile.
Me: Goodness gracious. Sonakshi also had Gunni for help. But when she was with Suhaana, Gunni used to do other work. But here, Nikisha is sitting and chatting and Bhaiya doesn't even try to find out what is Nikisha up to?
It's hard to believe that CVs are showing Dev Dixit here. He was not such a big moron.
Bhaiya is trying to stop Shubh from crying: Shush shush. Why are you crying so much? If you cry, Papa will also get sad.
Sonakshi comes running: Dev, what happened to Shubh? Why is he crying so much? I am trying your phone for so long. But I could not reach you.
Bhaiya says: Sonakshi, my phone shut down. And you are saying as if he never cries. It's okay. Everything is under control.
Sonakshi: What's in control? He is crying so much. Give him to me.
She takes Shubh.
Sonakshi: He is crying so much.
Bhaiya: He got rashes. May be that's why he is crying.
Sonakshi: You should have called us when you left the hospital naa. We were so worried. We didn't know what was going on.
Bhaiya looks shocked: Sonakshi, my phone shut down. And the moment we left, I got busy getting Suhaana's medicine. And I asked Nikisha to call everyone and let them know. Didn't she call you?
Sonakshi says: No.
They are shocked.
Me: Why? Nikisha is always on her personal call. How'd she call Sonakshi or anyone else if she is using the cell phone? Common sense.
Radha is telling Soha stories.
Ishwari comes there.
Suhaana runs to Ishwari: Dadi, where did you go?
Ishwari says: I came to see you at the hospital. But I found out there that you came home. So I came home fast. How are you, beta? Did you have a lot of pain in your tummy? Are you feeling well, now?
Suhaana says: I am absolutely fine now. Don't worry.
Ishwari kisses her and says: It's good then. Did doctor gave you medicines?
Suhaana: Yes, he give me medicine and also gave me injection. I was feeling a lot of pain then. But I still didn't cry. Because I am a grown up naa?
Ishwari: Yes, you have grown up. But you are still grandma's little girl. Now go and take rest and don't get up. You will get well soon.
Ishwari makes her lie down and leaves the room.
When she comes out, she sees Nikisha still on phone.
She gets angry. She comes to her, takes away her phone and turns it off.
Nikisha says: Excuse me.
Ishwari asks: Do you want the phone?
Nikisha: Obviously I want the phone.
Ishwari: Why? Is there any child rearing app in there? The work doesn't get done by chatting. Is this why we hired you? You might have learned all tricks to calm a baby. But what's the use? You don't want to work at all. Your attention is not at work.
Bhaiya and Sonakshi come there.
Bhaiya asks: What happened, Maa?
Me: Wait a minute. Bhaiya knew that Nikisha didn't inform his family despite his instructions, yet he is asking what happened? He should be questioning Nikisha why she didn't do what he told her to do?
Ishwari asks: Ask her. Ask her what happened. If I am speaking anything wrong.
Nikisha starts: Actually sir...
Sonakshi says: One minute. Sorry to interrupt. But I want to ask her something. When you were leaving from hospital, Dev told you to call us and let us know. Then why didn't you call?
Ishwari is shocked: He asked her?
Sonakshi: Yes, Maa.
Radha also makes faces.
Ishwari: Oh God. And here we were getting worried and was getting angry at Dev why he didn't tell us. And when he told you and you are always stuck on your phone, why didn't you message or call Sonakshi?
Nikisha is silent.
But Bhaiya butts in: Maa, she must have forgotten. She won't do it again.
Ishwari and Sonakshi are shocked.
Me: Are you serious? Ishwari and Sonakshi are the only smart people who can see how incompetent this nanny is and Bhaiya is such a moron that he is still trying to save Nikisha's ass?
Did he lose his brain cells?
He is behaving as if his little buddy made a boo boo and he is trying to save his buddy from trouble.
CVs left no stone unturned to make Bhaiya look like a bumbling idiot.
Sonakshi: Dev, let it be. I am talking naa.
Ishwari: Dev, why did you hire her paying so much money? So that she can help you and Sonakshi can work at office in peace, isn't it?
Nikisha: I was going to call. But I got a call and got busy.
Ishwari: You got busy? At which job? You got hired for this job naa. Then in which job did you get busy? What kind of important call do you keep getting? Huh? Tell me.
Me: That's not the point. The point is WHY she should receive personal call at working hours? She said she gives 12 hours of service. I didn't even see 7 hours of service from her.
But then I already knew that she lacked common sense. Workplace has certain decorum you have to maintain. Just the way a model can't walk in an interview wearing frumpy clothes, a banking executive can't walk in his workplace wearing jeans, the same way a nanny can't walk in her interview wearing tight clothes and high heels.
If he/she does, it shows a serious lack of professionalism and common sense.
No one hires a guy in leather jacket, multiple piercings and tattoos to manage their investment portfolio regardless how great money manager he is.
Nikisha: I just don't have this job. I have a lot more jobs. And I am having problem with my company's manager. Who will manage that? Will you?
Bhaiya finally gets his tongue and his brain cells working: Nikisha, is this the way one should talk? Will you talk to Maa like this?
Everyone is shocked at her insolence.
Ishwari: And for you that is more important than our kids? And what's the point of all this? If you don't work, who will pay you?
Nikisha: What do you mean?
Ishwari: What I mean? We don't need you here anymore. Because you won't work here.
Nikisha: I made one phone call and you made such a huge fuss.
Bhaiya finally exercising his voice: Now if you say one more thing...
Sonakshi: One minute. One minute, Dev. Maa is talking naa. Let her talk.
Bhaiya gets silent.
Me: If only you spoke when you should have, you won't have looked like the guy who screwed up and now trying to stammer our protest.
Ishwari: If it was anything else, I'd have given one more chance. But I won't tolerate slacking when it comes to my kids.
She hands over her phone: Take this and go. And there's no need to come from tomorrow.
Nikisha: I have no desire to work in your home either. And I will tell my manager to blacklist your family. Then I will see how you get nanny.
Me: Didn't she say she is having problem with her manager? Then why will her manager listen to her?
Ishwari: We don't need any nanny. Not you nor anyone else.
Sonakshi: Yes. Please leave.
Nikisha: I also don't want to stay. I got insulted enough.
Bhaiya: Out. Maa told you to go out.
Radha says: The door is there.
Nikisha leaves.
Sonakshi looks at Bhaiya and he hangs his head in shame.
Me: There you go. CVs once again successfully proved how idiotic men are and how women have to rush in to save the day because the same men who can build an empire from nothing, don't have two brain cells to rub together when it comes to hiring staff for home.
Awesome.
And now Ishwari, Asha and Sonakshi get to gloat that had they not been there, Bhaiya would have never noticed how useless and incompetent Nikisha is.
I am so pissed at CVs that my blood is boiling. Like every time, they took a relevant social issues and turning into a mockery of stereotypes. I don't know why I was expecting anything different from them after they botched up infertility track.
PRECAP: Ishwari serves Kofta: Have this Koftas. I made them.
Bhaiya says: Wow, Maa. You made Kofta after a long time.
Bhaiya eats the kofta and says: Mmmm...
Ishwari doesn't respond and sit down. Just then Shubh starts crying.
Everyone look at each other. But no one moves.
Me: That was bound to happen. Sonakshi gave Bhaiya a month. So she isn't moving.
Bhaiya has lost confidence in himself. So he is unsure what to do.
Ishwari doesn't know who should be going.
It's a massive mess.
NO RULES!!! YAY!!!
NO RULES!!! YAY!!!
The women of Dixit house need mental asylum
ReplyDeleteSuch an evil bunch.
Not evil. They are smug bunch who think they are always right. But, why won't they be when CVs keep showing every men as being so dumb?
DeleteI knew the nanny was incompetent, but I din like the scene. Starting from that music when Ishwari started marching towards the Naani.Did the cvs think she was saving the world.I mean how low can these guys go. Also I don't like sonakshi nowadays. She has very few dialogues and the ones she has are pathetic. The way she kept shush ingredients dev, it's as if she is a sidekick of Ishwari. Kind of a thug gang cornering an enemy ish being the leader and sona the enamored protégé. These guys make a mockery of social issues.
ReplyDeleteThey always make a mockery of social issues. But I personally think that the nanny deserved what she got for her unprofessional behaviour. Ishwari could have just fired her instead of asking for explanation. We'd get fired from our job if we chat on the phone while our work is pending.
DeleteSonakshi these days are Mamma's girl. Asha and Ishwari pull the strings and she jumps like a puppet. Funny how Bhaiya got rid of the strings and now she is tangled in it.
Then she could not take decision without everyone jumping down her throat. Now he can't take a step without everyone treating him like a moron they tolerate.
Season one in reverse.
Hi Tia, I enjoyed reading your writeup today. :). I mostly agree with you. Your writing is kind of giving me clarity with what the makers are trying to show. I think they are trying to show both Sonakshi's initial days @IN when he hires her as a nutritionist as well as Dev - Sonakshi's initial marriage phase. When Sonakshi was an employee of Dev as nutritionist, she did cross the lines of professionalism multiple times. But they were not all in one day. They started from day 1 of her employment, but was spread across for many months till she fell in love with Dev. Sonakshi was shown to play tennis with Nikki or help her study, when she was supposed to do her job. She was also shown to act like a family member and talk to people who came to IN like the chef who comes to thank, Dev's teacher, Ranveer etc. She also gave a lot of unsolicited advice and constantly taunted Dev that he cannot fire her. I think this is what the makers were trying to show with the nanny.
ReplyDeleteDuring Dev Sonakshi's initial marriage phase too Dev was shown as a dumb person while Ishwari and Sonakshi were shown to have an understanding of everything. And the way they are taking the story is to the same point which led them to break up in that farmhouse. But in all this, I feel the execution is very poor and the story has kind of gone haywire.
Adding to it is Kushal coming to IN and Sonakshi dressing up for that event in IN. Also her calling Dev dumb on the phone and also getting the cake delivered for her mother's birthday party in IN. Normally employees don't do these things. And if the employee starts doing these things, then that employee is fired.

DeleteBefore telling that Sonakshi crossed the lines of professionalism, just think about how Dev had crossed every single line of any professionalism & also decency when he not only falsely accused Sonakshi & got her fired but also closed every single door for her just so that she has to dance to her whims. He literally left her with no option but to work for him.
Now coming to your points :
1. Yes Sonakshi played with Nikki, helped her in studies. But that was during her spare time when she had completed her duties. These days every office has tennis tables, recreation areas where the employees can play. But they can only play either when they don't have much work to do or when they have completed their duties. Sonakshi neither had much work to do in that house nor did she ignore any of her work/duties.
Remember the episode when Ishwari tells her toh tum sirf kicchu ko bataogi kya pakana hai ? Sonakshi clearly tells Ishwari that yes that is the only work she has to do adding maine Mr. Dixit ko kaha ki woh kissi nurse ya maid ko hire kare par unko lagta hai mera yahan full time hona jaruri hai. Agar aapko meri salary se problem hai toh aap please Mr.Dixit se baat kijiye.
2. What is the problem if she talks to Ranveer, Dev's teacher ? Even in my office if any one 's parents/friends visit i talk to them. My childs tution teacher comes home and talks to all the relatives who visits my house and also my neighbors after the classes are over. Baat karne mein kya problem hain?
3. When Dev told her angrily "Agar tum ma ki nutritionist nahin hoti toh tumhe kab ka fire kar deta" to which she said "Lekin aap aisa karege nahin kyun ki itni mehnat jo ki hai mujhe yahan laane mein"
What is wrong in that. He was also threatening her so she answered him back. After all he was the one who had left her with no option but to accept that job. Why to give her dhamki's when he clearly wanted her and try to intimidate her .. and why should she get intimidated ?
4. Kushal coming to pick her up is totally ok. Don't our relatives/friends/spouses visit our office ? Don't they come and sit in our cubicle ? He just came to pick her up. He was not flirting with her or doing something that should not be done at work place.
5. Calling Dev dumb was perhaps not needed. But Dev kept on calling her during her private time when she had clearly taken permission from Ishwari before going and also she had told Neha before going that she has kept the list on refrigerator. He kept on & on & on calling her and also was shouting at her that she did not complete her work before going. However instead of talking to Dev what Sonakshi should have done at that moment was just ignore his calls. It was her private time. She should have dealt with Dev the next day.
6. Birthday cake delivered !! What is wrong in that ? Don't we all get courier at our work place ? A lot of time we give office address for delivery since no one will be there at home to pick up.
Yes Shaavi, you definitely got a point. Sonakshi did cross the line of professionalism when she was an employee. However, definitely not from day one and she offered to help out the family members after her actual job was done. At no point of time did she neglect her primary duty which was to be a dietitian for Ishwari.
DeleteThe reason I thought Nikisha was unprofessional was because not only she chatted with whoever all day, but she neglected to do her job in the first place. Had she gone over and helped Ishwari with house work while Soha and Golu were studying and Shubh was sleeping, it would have been fine. In fact it would be called going above and beyond the call of duty.
That's exactly why I thought that Nikisha was unprofessional, not Sonakshi in season one.
My complaint with CVs right now is how they are handling another sensitive social issue like gender roles. I am honestly sick and tired of them taking one after another issue in the society and making a mockery out of it.
Oh regarding Kunal picking her up and cake being delivered, Kunal came after work to pick her up. It's no different than her father or brother picking her up.
DeleteAnd the cake she bought with her own money and got delivered to her. That is not punishable offence for an employee.
Where she crossed the professional line is when she fell in love with Bhaiya. That was unprofessional. However, since she didn't try to entice him or try to lure him to fall in love with her, again, she didn't behave in an unprofessional manner.
She was unprofessional when she let Bhaiya call the shots at her workplace, give orders to her employees, let him read her confidential professional files. Those are punishable and in her profession, criminal offense.
Dev ruko Maa baat Kar Rahi hain na. I was passed swing how the scene was played out. Sonakshi as usual had nothing better to do than play second fiddle to ish. That's why I hated the scene.
ReplyDeleteSonakshi always plays second fiddle to Ishwari and Asha. What is new in there? First her problem was that Dev is not saying anything and now her problem is that he is saying something. The employee is his, the mother is his, then why can't he tell his employee off? But nope. Ishwari even fires people better than Bhaiya.
DeleteHa ha how ludicrous is this. They should be ashamed of their screenplay. Stranger things with kid actors has better screenplay. But then it's Hollywood.
DeleteA good art comes when story and script is above actor and character. Krpkab would have better if they put ish on the backseat for once and not let her hog the limelight always.
ReplyDeleteIshwari and take back seat? Didn't you know she is CVs' favourite character?
DeleteThat is what debilitated the script. .
